Trevor Field

30+ Years Water Experience World Bank Award Winner Sub-Saharan Africa Expert

Trevor Field is one of Africa's most experienced and decorated water innovators. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has dedicated himself to solving the continent's most pressing water challenges — from rural community installations to large-scale infrastructure projects.

Trevor's PlayPump water system — a merry-go-round that pumps water as children play — won the World Bank Development Marketplace Award in 2000 and was deployed across sub-Saharan Africa, bringing clean water to millions. The programme attracted international support and was featured widely as a model for sustainable development innovation.

At SolarRain, Trevor leads overall strategy, investor relations and business development, drawing on his extraordinary network of government relationships, NGO partnerships and deep operational knowledge of African water markets across the continent.

"I've spent thirty years trying to solve this problem. SolarRain is the most exciting and scalable solution I've seen — because it doesn't need anything but the sun."

Chief Technology Officer

Dr Chris Engelbrecht

PhD Physicist Solar Thermal Expert Applied R&D

Dr Chris Engelbrecht is a physicist with decades of experience in applied solar thermal research and engineering. He leads SolarRain's technical development — translating Tenkiv's patented vacuum collector technology into a manufacturable, deployable water purification system.

Chris's expertise spans thermodynamics, phase-change systems, and precision electronics — all of which are central to SolarRain's core design. He has overseen the development of the electronic control system and the thermal circuit that delivers real-time pasteurisation without any grid power input.

He is also responsible for SolarRain's R&D roadmap, which extends beyond water purification into heating, cooling, heat engines for electricity generation and thermal energy storage — additional modules planned for Phase 2 development from a USA-based R&D facility.

The water test results that confirm 100% pathogen and coliform elimination to international standards are a direct product of Chris's technical rigour and his insistence on independent lab verification before any product claims are made.
